Stop the fires in Uttarakhand

Stop the fires in Uttarakhand
The Issue
There are almost 400 forest fires raging in the Himalayan foothills at the moment. The fires have killed 5 people and innumerable wild species of plants and animals. While natural forest fires are a common phenomenon in the area, the uncontrolled fires in the area is probably the Timber mafia at play. They set fires to the forests for illegal felling of timber.
No action has been taken as yet and we are petitioning to the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand to take action against the Timber mafia in the area and file a criminal complaint against the locals found setting fire in Protected forest areas. Setting fires in Protected Areas is prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
