The Issue
Problem: Toxic smoke from waste dump site causes lungs, throat problems. Near by residents are affected by this toxic smoke and unmanaged,untreated waste.

Rules violated:
- Solid Waste Management Rules 2016
- Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016
- Article 14 of Indian Constitution
- Article 21 of Indian Constitution
- Section 3 (1) (3) of SC/ST Act 1989
- Section 3 (1) (15) of SC/ST Act 1989
- Section 4 of SC/ST Act 1989
- Contempt of NGT Order O.A. No. 606/2018 Dated 20/08/2018
Solutions and our demands:
- We demand that the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 should be implemented strictly as soon as possible.
- Please identify and allocate proper land for waste and disposal facilities to Municipal corporation kapurthala as per provisions of 12(a) of Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.
- Remediate legacy dumpsites.
- Plastic should be banned. Dry waste and wet waste should be separated at source.
- Compost making process should be adopted for wet waste, so that no harm Greenhouse gases are released into environment.
- Sweepers and MC sweepers/ cleaners should get proper safety equipments and timely salary.
- Waste should be treated, separated, segregated before going to landfill as per NGT Guidelines.
