Stop the VIP 'steel' flyover to Bengaluru Airport. Invest in public transport!

The Issue

While obituaries are being written about namma Bengaluru thanks to the crumbling infrastructure and horrendous traffic congestion that every single person in this city, irrespective of age, occupation and location is impacted by on a daily basis, the Government of Karnataka decides to build a new 'steel' flyover from Basaveswara Circle to Hebbal to make commute to the airport (KIAL) faster at an estimated cost of Rs 1350 crores (already shot up to Rs 1900 crores.)

This is a terrible idea, considering that airport users are a minute fraction of the 1.2 crore residents of this city!  Despite of widespread opposition from public and urban planners and civic activists, the government seems to be hell bent on taking this forward.

We, the people of Bengaluru, the honest tax payers and the voters guilty of putting the wrong people in charge of our city, demand that this VIP flyover project be immediately stopped.

If you really have the conviction and commitment to fix Bengaluru traffic congestion, you must do the following to improve PUBLIC transport instead of VIP transport.

  • Commuter Rail - namma Railu - get it on fast track
  • Increase the fleet size of BMTC. Subsidize bus fares. 30 lakh users!
  • Expedite metro and ensure feeder bus connectivity
  • Build a network of foot paths and bicycle lanes through out the city

We urge you to stop the steel flyover and prioritize PUBLIC transport!
