The Goa Government launched Goa's prestigious taxi app - first of it's kind in India ... but it has completely failed as people are getting error "No vehicle to dispatch" or "Oops all our taxis are hired now ...". Even though the agreement is launched by the Government it is in favor of GoaMiles, benefits the taxi mafia, the mafia continues to threaten the existence of GoaMiles. Taxi Mafia has ganged up against the Govt and boycotted GoaMiles. Ironically, the BJP MLA Michael Lobo has supported the taxi mafia against the govt decision to provide taxi app for public. the government continues to take no action against the taxi mafia even though they have earned little to no revenue from the venture.
The Goa Government created the monopoly and allowed it to keep all income to itself for 30 months. This is not in the interest of Goa Tourism. It's created just to fool the people. The contract is questionable and should have been made public in August 2018, instead we know about it now. It's like - people are robbed by the Government in August and they know about it 4 months later in December.
The loot will continue..... The vested interests - politicians, govt officers and police have their own taxis earning income by sitting at home and want to continue looting the public and tourists and so have maintained the secrecy of the agreement. Besides taxi income, at major stake is the income from drugs and prostitution business.
Goamiles vehicles are not less than 10 years old as was mentioned by Govt, but they are the same filthy taxis that we see around from taxi mafia. There is nobody in charge to talk to, the Govt is silent and people have given up.
No wonder the hotel industry is hit by drop in tourists. Proper taxi app will bring a boom to tourism, hotel business will increase occupancy. Better mobility will provide good business for all hotels as tourists have a better choice and can afford to stay at a distance. The TTAG staff have vested interests in status quo with taxi mafia as they own taxis with their lucrative business and don't want to see it changed.
It is time the hotel owners lobby files the Public Interest Litigation. Or the citizens of the state rise in unison and question the impotence of the law and order machinery in the state. The Goa Government should declare GoaMiles as a total failure and invite OLA/Uber in the state.
