Speed governors are applicable all over India, so why is Goa so special ? The crook BJP MLA Michael Lobo is supporting the taxi mafia against the policies of the Government and they wants to show their strength to intimidate the Goa Government. The same issue was brought up in last January when the taxi Mafia openly said that Goa's all 40 MLA's are at the mercy of the taxi mafia to get elected.
Speed governors should be strictly enforced for the simple reason that taxi driver is risking the life of another person. Besides safety of locals, tourists should feel safe as tourism industry today is based on ratings and feedback, tourists vent it out their frustrations in forums. There are many complaints about rash driving by taxi drivers in the tax petition.
The fare charged in Goa is highly lucrative - more than plane fare. The taxi looters want to make more trips in shorter time. Besides there are situation when taxi drivers want to race against time particularly when they need to be at their fixed time appointment by say 6PM. They would drive extremely fast cutting across the traffic to catch up, risking the traffic and public. To add to this there are times when taxis overtake while talking on the phone, in poor visibility even during heavy rains on our dangerous potholed roads.
Speed Governors should not be applicable for private vehicles because the person who drivers is taking the risk for himself and other passengers are "known" as compared to taxi driver who risks the life of public. Michael Lobo is only bothered about the looter taxi mafia and does not understand the consequences to the general public.
Vehicle life is improved with speed governors and have been in Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 for decades and the manufacturers confirm to Indian regulations.
Why do Goans tolerate such politicians who are dependent on the taxi mafia vote bank hiring drivers from southern states ? In the upcoming election, people should vote against the BJP Party if Michael Lobo continues in the party. He has been openly told to resign and he is shamelessly continuing ….. Taxi mafia has threatened "We will go off road…" and giving funny excuses why they won't …
The looters and goon taxi drivers are fully supported by the notorious BJP MLA, strangely the party itself tolerates such backstabbers as all the 40 MLAs seem to be dependent on taxi mafia to get elected. Goans should be careful not to vote for such crooks and the party in the forthcoming election if people's interests are to be served.
In the meantime the prestigious Goa Government taxi app is a total failure with "NO VEHICLE AVAILABLE TO DISPATCH" and people have totally forgotten about it. So who is looking after people's interest ?
As a tourists state this is the opportunity to negotiate with Ola/Uber and open up the market for the benefit of Goans as per their fundamental right. Opening to Ola/Uber will automatically solve all the issues including speed governors, fares, subsidy, insurance, clean taxis, courteous service, safe tracking, feedback, etc never to bring the state to ransom by the goons.
This venomous attitude of the taxi operators has cost us Goans, and have found it cheaper to have and run their own vehicle, than to hire a taxi. This has silently cost Goan families lakhs of rupees over the years, and also worsened the traffic situation of a state that has one of the lowest livability index, the worst mobility index. Now we have a chance to set things right, by kicking out Rogue politicians and by encouraging taxi aggregator models such as Ola/Uber and other taxi operators that support competition.
