Dear Friends, Happy Diwali to everyone ! The first taxi debate confirms what we have said all along that taxi goons are openly looting Goans and tourists. Taxi association has been dictating terms to the shameless Goa Government for decades. Even if some taxi drivers are good, they are charging exorbitant fares and supporting the union. Hopefully the next taxi debate is an open debate with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Taxi Association and Public before final decision. It would be unfair if public opinion is not taken into consideration. At present we all need to support TAXIGO and Raghu's initiative and boycott yellow-black taxis. Hopefully TAXIGO is able to provide app based taxis and TAXIGO will be opened up to general private contractors just like Ola/Uber so that employment is provided for hardworking Goans. Opening up to private contractors is the only way to stop Tourism being held to ransom by taxi drivers. We have filed RTI for list of current taxi license holders but we are not getting proper response. There seems to be fraud in allocating multiple Taxi licenses to individuals. Most of the Goan origin taxi drivers have employed drivers from the South India so the Taxi license model itself is questionable. We have made more attempts to get appointment with Chief Minister but we are getting no response and he doesn't seem to care public opinion.
