LOOT FOR LIVELIHOOD It seems like a joke that Taxi operators with families protest against opening of airport car rental counter All over the world, the car rentals are available at airports. As per the Global Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017, tourist locations are evaluated based on airport car rentals. This will bring down Goa's rating which will affect livelihood of half the Goan population. Mauvin Godinho has asked to stop the Car rental counter and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar says there is no permission given. Do they understand that as a Tourist state, the rental counter is the bare minimum need for Today's tourists ? We got lots of tips from public about how the Taxi drivers earn commissions from Tourists in multiples of Taxi business and that makes it extremely lucrative to lose if customers rent a car or take bus from airport. It is the fundamental right of every Goan to benefit from open competition with lower fares but Government is allowing loot by Taxi License owners who control the Goa Government. Unless the Government is firm on allowing Ola/Uber, the circus will go on with demands and the Government & Tourism are held to ransom by Taxi drivers. With Ola/Uber the Goa Government will compulsorily collect taxes on fares and also driver's earnings are always official and taxable providing major source of revenue for the state.
