Why this petition matters

Started by Assam State NSUI

Crimes against women continue to surge amid this pandemic across India, in a horrific incident, a woman hailing from Jorhat in Assam was raped by two men while she was returning back to her home on Monday night.Earlier to this a woman was raped while returning from hospital after becoming Covid -19 negative in Assam Charaideo district. As reported by newspapaers the victim and her daughter were released during the curfew time. The woman and her daughter had requested the hospital authority to arrange a vehicle for them to travel the 25 km distance to their home. But the hospital authority denied it and both the mother and daughter eventually decided to walk the distance of 25 km to their home. When they reached the Dhudarai area at around 7 pm, two miscreants chased them and caught the woman and raped her. The victim’s daughter managed to flee from the area and informed nearby villagers and police about the incident.

Few Karbi minor girl was allegedly raped, murdered and later set ablaze in Assam’s Nagaon district.

It's very disheartening to see that brutality against women in Assam is increasing day by day. Lives of all women have become insecure.

Government policies will be of no use if young women don’t feel comfortable stepping out of their homes.

As a part of a responsible students organization we receive request from many youths across the state to bring into light and inform of the government about the problems faced by the youths.Hence, on behalf of such youths , Assam NSUI would like to make some suggestions for women safety to the government of Assam
1) A toll free number should be set up to inform your honour about the negligent police officials who refuses to register any FIR with regards to incidents of violence against women, rape, sexual assault etc.
2) A course of self defence for female students must provide at every colleges and schools of Assam

It's high time that we raise our voice.
