Immediate Provision of appropriate PPE to all healthcare professionals

The Issue

Despite government's reassurances for provision of adequate PPE to healthcare professionals, vast majority of NHS staff are still working with no or inadequate PPE protection.

There is evidence out that people may have no symptoms or very mild symptoms with COVID-19 and they are equally infective to others in contact-(https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses

Hence professionals working even in low risk areas coming in contact with patients are equally vulnerable, and need adequate protection.

A Medscape survey last week revealed 72% of doctors did not have access to PPE, 85% of those who had supply, were inappropriate, many had improperly fitting masks, and 72% of hospitals did not have access to Antigen tests.

A vast majority of GPs, including many of my colleagues are working with a basic plastic apron with no long sleeves and a paper surgical mask working in the front line, and many clinical specialities do not have sufficient or any protection provided as recommended by Public Health, England- (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-nhs-uk-doctors-gagged-england-a9433171.html

We have already lost many healthcare professionals. Few of them were retired and volunteered to come back to the NHS, and lost their life. One warned the PM of inadequate protection 5 days before his death. We can not afford any more loss due to unsafe working conditions, and request you to ensure adequate and appropriate PPE supply to all healthcare professionals with immediate effect.
