We have been presented with the very alarming news that Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are considering reducing the service provided by Tamworth Mercia Fire Station. Although most of the population of Staffordshire as a whole do understand that your organisation are faced with having to "find" 5.7 million pounds in operational savings by 2020, we do NOT AGREE that proposals to reduce this vital service are of benefit to the local community...and could indeed lead to loss of life. Tamworth Mercia Fire Station is currently operating as a "Retained Firefighter" service anyway, so any further stripping down of this provision is unacceptable. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are proposing to either : 1. Remove the Fire Engine and Fire Crew reducing Tamworth from two Fire appliances to only one. 2. Remove the large engine and replace it with a smaller one with a smaller crew. We the undersigned do not want any reduction to Tamworth Mercia Fire Station. We believe that such reductions could lead to loss of life, or serious injury at the very least.This petion asks for the option for remaining as status quo as a reduction to three people crewing a fire engine will lead to increased risk to the public and firefighters.  Also, we as a community, very much appreciate that Tamworth Mercia Fire Station is frequently used as a facility by both local and regional voluntary groups for meetings and as a discussion/networking hub.To remove this facility, would be detrimental to those users.
