Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a flavor enhancer that is commonly added to fast food and used to the people’s disadvantage. MSG can look like a salt or flavoring but it is a chemical that tells your brains receptors that you need to consume more of that food that has MSG in it. Obesity is a very big issue in the united states and can be traced back to people being “addicted” to food and most of the food that these people are addicted to are linked to fast food. The fast food companies are putting a chemical in our food that makes your brain tell you to eat more of it. The addition of MSG to products does not increase the taste of the food it only wants the consumer to want more of it. The only profit from this chemical is for the big fast food companies using our own brains to buy more of their products. MSG effects many people differently but it can be linked to obesity and needs to be taken out of the food industry for the united states overall health as a country.
