School uniforms restrict students' freedom of expression. School uniforms promote conformity over individuality. School uniforms do not stop bullying and may increase violent attacks. School uniforms do not improve attendance, academic preparedness, or exam results. My child is in 3rd grade, I find it disturbing that we have to make children wear clothes matching other children, and most of the time their excuse is "equality" other children isn't my concern just like my child shouldn't be yours. Our kids go 5 days out of the week for 8 hours a day to school! So clothes I buy her eventually get smaller than her school clothes. Teachers or principals have NO RIGHT to take our children's right to express their individuality. God forbid a child goes missing and we can't describe what their wearing that makes them stand out because 100s of other students are wearing the same thing. It's ridiculous!! These are our kids! And to be honest, Chicago public schools should be more concern on who they hire as teachers then what children are wearing. Sign this petition and let's get Chicago on track to ending this ridiculous rule.
