Remove Amazon from Chicago Parks - Keep Public Spaces Community Focused

The Issue

Amazon pickup lockers have been moving into our public parks, most recently Brands Park and Forest Glen Playlot. The Park District’s initial plan was to install 68 Amazon lockers throughout Chicago Parks– Updated plans show a 102 locker deal.

The purpose of public parks is to provide free safe access to all community members. Businesses, especially large businesses like Amazon, should not be able to buy their way into community spaces.

Due to public outcry, Amazon has removed two lockers, however, there are no plans to remove the existing half installed since December 2020. Installations are paused, but we want removal.

We are calling on the Chicago Park District, Lori Lightfoot, and the City of Chicago to remove these lockers and keep our parks community spaces free from predatory businesses like Amazon.

Responded
It is beyond inappropriate for Amazon’s business paraphernalia to block public access in park. But even if it were placed somewhere out of the way, this is not an appropriate use of public property. Chicago’s parks should not be for sale.
