Whereas Ohio Street Beach is the nation's pre-eminent triathlon training location

Whereas thousands of swimmers , triathletes, cyclists and runners use this facility on a daily basis in the summer;

Whereas the entire local, regional and national endurance community utilize this facility, including prominent local businesses, endurance production groups, non-profit organizations (including para triathlon groups) and others;

Whereas the existing amenities do provide adequate public health and safety services;

Therefore this petition calls to improve the public facilities at Ohio Street Beach, including the addition of showers, changing rooms, additional lockers and bike racks. The beach is currently under construction due to the Lakefront Path "Flyover" bridge being completed:

Specifically requested amenities:

1. Increase locker counts from 30 to 60

2. Increase bike rack capacity from 40 to 100

3. Add a simple shower fixture within proximity of the beach

4. Add a simple ADA accessible toilet and changing family space within proximity of the beach

5. Incorporate a functional, simplified ADA/wheelchair ramp leading from the Lakefront path towards the waters edge with a sloped ramp to move wheelchairs into the water

6. Incorporate distance marker placards along the seawall (at approximately 100 m intervals)

7. Upgrade/replace and extend the existing swim buoy lanes, which are inadequately weighted and often drift off course and interfere with proper swim paths.
