Keep the Printer's Row Neighborhood Quiet

Keep the Printer's Row Neighborhood Quiet
The Issue
Digital Realty, a cloud services and data hosting company, provides neighbors and clients with committed reliability of all internet needs. To ensure their continued support of server hosting and data storage to their clients as well as internet services to their neighbors, Digital Realty expanded server cooling equipment on the rooftop of their campus located at 600 S. Federal Street in early 2020. These additions did not come without consequence as neighbors and businesses near Digital Realty’s Printer’s Row campus are being affected by the machines emitting constant noise. The noises being emitted surpass Chicago’s ordinance 8-30-090 of the municipal code that can lead to health complications and property value decline. The neighborhood and businesses are grateful for the services Digital provides; however, these should not be at the expense of their neighbors.
In order to continue their dedication to quality cloud services with respect to their neighbors, we request Digital Realty is held accountable to the 55 dBa limit from 8pm-8am covered by ordinance 8-30-090 in the Chicago Municipal Code by having Digital Realty conduct a thorough sound investigation on all rooftop equipment to find the best possible solutions to encase any and all equipment that run 24/7 to prevent current and future noise violations.
Respectfully,
The Neighbors of Printer’s Row
