Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts has shown at the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline that after the Cubs won the 2016 World Series that he is unwilling to give long-term extensions to key pieces of that championship team by trading them away to other organizations and even rival organizations in order to get far less talent in return.

Ricketts has also shown an unwillingness to make major moves in Free Agency and at previous years Trade Deadlines. Most of the acquisitions since the 2016 World Series title have been lateral at best and outright embarrassing for the Cubs organization at worst.

Tom Ricketts' unwillingness to spend money has not only affected player and prospect acquisitions but also has affected managerial extensions. Ricketts refused to fund an extension for World Series-winning manager Joe Maddon after a disappointing 84-78 season in 2019 in which Maddon missed the playoffs for the FIRST time in his Cubs tenue. All Maddon did for the Cubs was win and Tom Ricketts couldn't be convinced to keep the winning ways alive.

This unwillingness to pay for some of the best players (and manager) in franchise history is absolutely shameful. Cubs fans deserve an owner who is committed to winning baseball. In order to win a World Series like the Cubs did 5 years ago, they need an owner who has the financial willingness and means to foot the bill for extensions of key players and winning managers. Ricketts has shown neither of these characteristics that are crucial for the management of a winning baseball team.

I call upon all Cubs fans who want a return to our winning ways in recent history to sign this petition in hopes that Cubs management hears our frustrations with their recent performance, particularly at the 2021 Trade Deadline.
