Stop euthanasia of animals at my city shelter that aren’t sick or a danger to others

The Issue

I am proposing a new law that states our City Animal Shelter here in Cheyenne Wyoming are ONLY allowed to euthanize animals that are sick and/or are a danger to others. The shelter managment has a history of putting down animals who have been there for what they state “too long” when in reality the animal has only been there for 2 or so months. This is an unfair disadvantage to the animal. And it also unfair to our public who believe our shelter is a No Kill shelter. They have been lied to by this board and I believe they need to be truthful and be upfront with our public about what kind of shelter they hold. No animal needs to be killed because they are there for too long or for any other misleading reason. Our state and city should be held responsible and accountable for their actions towards the way the treat our animals. We as Wyoming have a better potential and a standard to hold to the USA and this state as we are caring and protecting these animals from being abused, disowned, dumped, overbred, not loved, or any other reason they are brought to our shelter. Our workers need to be held accountable for their actions and ethics toward one another and the animals they care for. If they do not meet this standard, then they need to be let go and someone who cares for animals with heart and soul should be hired. There is no reason someone who works with animals should be happy about putting any animal down unless under a good cause like a deathly sickness or endangerment. This new law will enforce correct and legal actions towards the animals that are in the hands of they Cheyenne Animal Shelter staff.
