Why this petition matters

Started by Agnes Marsala

Our area is being over run by warehouse development. Now, the owners of Old York Country Club, Three Putt, LLC, are exploring the idea of turning their beautiful course into a warehouse site. This property was originally a horse farm. It is not zoned for warehouse use and would require many waivers and variances from the township and the NJDEP, among others.

We think this is a bad idea since it would increase the already heavy and growing traffic caused by a nearby warehouse in Bordentown Township. It would also cause dire environmental impacts from disturbing wetlands, to increased air and water pollution. Additionally, there are historical buildings on the property dating back to the 1700s which would be impacted.

It might seem like a good idea, one that has the potential of easing an already heavy tax burden, but the promise of "ratables" almost never materializes. We live in Chesterfield in large part, to get away from the hustle and bustle of New Jersey's 1-95 Corridor. If we start changing the rules we've set in place to protect our open space, we run the very real risk of becoming just another part of the Boston to Washington, DC megalopolis.

New Jersey's motto is "The Garden State" and no area still exemplifies that more than Chesterfield. We urge all parties involved to seek alternatives to the idea of yet another warehouse.
