Drop the proposed introduction of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), banning sleeping on the streets, as well as feeding the birds and unauthorized busking.
The Issue
The council's proposed use of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) does not "safeguard the interests of all", but criminalizes those with nothing and nowhere else to go: the very people the council should be helping.
Both Hackney and Oxford City councils have dropped similar plans following backlashes. Major retailers, estate agents, and commercial landlords have also dropped their own crude social cleansing measures after public opposition. Tesco in Regent Street in London's West End removed its anti-homeless spikes, as did Selfridges in Manchester along with Foxton's in Holborn as did a private block of flats in London with spikes near its entrance. That has all been due to the backlash, both online and physically.
Cheshire West and Chester Council should drop all plans for the use of Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), along with such 'out of sight, out of mind' anti-homeless policies.
