In a recent board meeting OPS Superintendent Cheryl Logan said we can’t have both sports and school while COVID-19 is going on. There is a very high chance that once students go back an outbreak will happen in schools no matter how much social distancing and COVID precautions are taken. As soon as a large scale outbreak happens in more than one school the district will most likely be shut down for the rest of the year leaving the district without School OR Fall Sports. Many students in OPS come from diverse backgrounds and some families rely on sports so their students can receive a college education. If OPS was in favor of all students they would let fall sports take place so the families that rely on scholarships could go out and earn them. It would also be more likely that COVID procedures would be better enforced at sporting events than in a high school amongst a bunch of 14-18 years olds who haven’t seen their friends in months... in conclusion, LET THE KIDS PLAY!
