It's time to take the next step for our planet!
It's time to take the next step for our planet!

Plastic straws are not recyclable, cause harm to wildlife and do not break down in the environment. They are a small item with big consequences to our planet. In Niagara Region, we have the opportunity to make a significant change and you can help by signing this petition to encourage food service locations to stop offering plastic straws.
There are many environmental issues and concerns that we face in our every day lives. We constantly make decisions that affect ourselves, our families, our communities and the environment. You already recycle, bring your reusable bags shopping, choose sustainable products and don't idle your vehicle. These are great things to do, but let's take it one step further and encourage food service locations in Niagara Region to stop offering plastic straws.
Why? Some facts:
- 57 million straws are used in Canada every day and are not recyclable
- Plastic straws are one of the top 10 materials found at beach clean-ups world-wide and sea birds, fish and sea turtles are harmed or killed by ingesting plastic, including plastic straws in our oceans. - Places like the City of Vancouver, the state of California and Great Britain have all either banned, or in the process of banning plastic straws
Niagara Region is a world-class destination. By signing this petition you are showing the world that Niagara Region residents are responsible stewards of the planet.
We can't solve all the environmental problems in our world, but by adding your voice and taking this small step of encouraging food service locations to stop offering plastic straws in Niagara Region, you can contribute to making our world a better place for yourself, your children, grandchildren and the environment!
