The proposals include shorter opening hours, charging for services such as computers and staffing cuts.  These will have a wide and far reaching impact on the community. The library service is essential for many people, including vulnerable individuals in the community.    There are other ways perhaps to raise funds and libraries are beginning to diversify, offering many unique and new ideas for funding. Simply cutting services in this way will mean a vital lifeline is lost for some and lead to pressure on other services (including youth groups and elderly support/support for those in distress). We hope the council will listen and reconsider before it is too late.  The petition reflects the depth of feeling within the communities affected.
