Publish all the financial documents on Chennai's Drainage projects
The Issue
Dear Governing Council of the Corporation of Chennai
We, the residents of the Chennai City are aware of the extent of the damage the city of Chennai has endured during the torrential rains in the last few weeks. While we appreciate the relief measures taken by the Corporation, we still want to hold the Corporation and it's governing council responsible for the lack of efforts in maintaining city's crumbling storm water drainage infrastructure.
As per the page (the page was last modified on 07/02/2014 at the time of writing this petition) (link) listed on Chennai Corporation's official website "Rs.1447.92 crores has been collectively approved for the improvements of 16 canals, construction of new storm water drains to a length of 307km and Re- construction of storm water drains to a length of 149 km will be taken up under Micro Drainage system."
We, the concerned residents and tax payers of the city of Chennai demand the Corporation to divulge all the information as to how much funds were allocated towards each individual micro-project, and how much of the sanctioned Rs.1447.92 crores has been spent. We also demand that corporation publish the complete break up of expenditure, and supporting documents for every rupee spent towards these projects.
