Upgrade the existing features & facilities at Pittville skatepark

Pittville skatepark has been at the heart of the BMX community for riders throughout Cheltenham and surrounding areas since its installation in the late ’90s. This facility at Pittville is much loved by BMX riders, skaters and scooters, and is the ‘go-to’ park for many users as they develop their riding skills and abilities.
How do we intend to use your signature?
BMX riders are already a small minority, and facilities that are suited to BMX riders are in short supply. Councils prefer plazas and community edge parks that offer something for everyone, but do not work well for freestyle BMX.
We will use your signature to ensure Cheltenham Borough Council (CBC) knows Pittville Skatepark is a park that is 1) used and loved by the community and 2) that there is a need for an upgrade.
Why Pittville Skatepark?
Put simply, Pittville Skatepark is unique. Riders coming to Pittville can find flow, a variety of features, excellent transport links, and free access!
All this makes it one of the best outdoor facilities in the UK to support and nurture new freestyle BMX riders.
What are we petitioning for?
Pittville is the perfect place for developing Grassroots BMX freestyle riders and has a unique flow that attracts many people to ride it.
We want to see several improvements to the park to ensure its legacy remains, and to ensure future generations of riders have access to an excellent facility. Here are just a few ideas:
- Flooring - It's widely acknowledged the flooring surface within the park is degraded and needs updating
- Ramps & New Features - The original designs proposed to the council in the '90s included more ramps that would allow users to flow around the park (even more than you can today!). There is currently a gap by the south entrance, and the hip to flat bank is unsuitable to build speed to clear the jump boxes. This should be remedied.
- Fencing - The current fencing has served a purpose, but it needs an upgrade due to safety concerns.
- Seating - There is currently limited seating and benches around the park. Enabling skatepark users to rest and families outside the skatepark to watch.
- Bins - The current bins have been in place since the park was installed. We would love some larger, modern bins or even recycling stations.
- Lighting - Other facilities, including Churchdown, are floodlit to allow riding to continue longer in the winter months.
- Access - The steps into the park on both the North and South entrances make the park awkward to access for some users. These should be replaced with ramps and steps to allow easy access for all.
*This list is not exhaustive, but we want to give you a feel for the changes we could make!
