We have some news!

I attended Fenland District Council on Monday, along with trustee Heather Johnson, to make the case for the pool being listed as an Asset of Community Value.

Fenland District Council had attempted to make contact with the owner via the agent on several occasions, but the agent failed to respond to their communications. The agent was provided with details of the hearing, but both the agent and owner failed to attend to make their case.

The council has just been in touch to confirm that our nomination has been ACCEPTED, and that the pool will now be listed as an Asset of Community Value!

This means that, if the owner wishes to sell the property, we can delay the sale for six months while we try to raise the funds to put in a bid as a community group. The fact it is an ACV is also a material consideration for any planning application, meaning that it is easier for the council to reject any application for change of use or demolition.

This is all great news, and we're very grateful to the more than 1,200 of you who added your names to this petition!

BUT, the hard work is only just beginning... the fundraising group still has some way to go to be able to raise the money to try and buy the pool, and there's still potentially a long campaign ahead to secure the pool so that people in Chatteris can still learn to, and enjoy, swimming within the town.

Happy swimming,
