List The Empress Pool in Chatteris as an Asset of Community Value

List The Empress Pool in Chatteris as an Asset of Community Value
The Issue
The Empress Swimming Pool is under threat. It is currently up for sale, and could be sold to a developer and risks being demolished.
The loss of The Empress Swimming Pool, used by five local schools, the town's swimming club, various businesses and many members of the public would leave Chatteris with no swimming facilities. The nearest pool would be nearly 9 miles away in March or Ramsey, meaning that schools would face increased costs and lost learning time to transport pupils to alternative pools - and the children and adults who currently use the pool for learning to swim, exercise and leisure activities will lose out.
We have applied for the pool to be listed as an Asset of Community Value. This would buy the trust that runs the pool more time to try and bid for the building, as well as making it significantly harder for developers to obtain permission to change its use, knock it down or close it.
Our application already has the support of many members of the public, local schools, the swimming club and local MP Stephen Barclay.
We would also like the Town Council and District Council to express support for our campaign. Please sign our petition to let them know that you want them to support this listing, and ask the Town and District Councils not to be conspicuous in their lack of publicly stated support!
