Bring more Internet providers to North Georgia

Inadequate internet service providers for north Georgia counties is no longer acceptable. Many of these counties are no longer rural but do not yet qualify as metro Atlanta. Larger businesses are apprehensive to establish in our communities due to the slow Internet speeds offered by Windstream DSL, which is the only option! Simply by adding businesses to these counties would create more jobs and allow for families to get out of poverty. Secondly, the students in these areas are falling behind academically because they do not have access to affordable Internet. These students are not able to do homework, prepare for class, apply to college and improve computer skills. Several school systems have the funds to put a device in every student's hand but without Internet, there is no point. Customers easily pay $100/month for Internet that advertises as fast but is indeed slow. Windstream has very low customer satisfaction reviews but know people will not cancel their service because there is NO OTHER OPTION. Several other large companies offer discounted Internet for low-income homes. This is much needed for education purposes. The cycle of poverty and illiteracy does not have to continue if big corporations like Charter, AT & T, Comcast, XFinity, etc. will spend money to make the Internet available to many north Georgia communities. As a 24 year veteran teacher who works with at-risk students daily, I wholeheartedly believe that accessibility to affordable Internet would greatly improve their educational path and allow them to become productive citizens who are gainfully employed. Please help make this a possibility.
