Neighbors Against 6633 Providence Rd Rezoning Petition 2020-103
The Issue
This is a petition against the proposed rezoning of 5.92 acres located at the Northeast corner of Providence and Alexander Roads from R-3 to U-2 (3 dwellings per acre to 12 dwellings per acre). The developer proposes to build 45 townhomes.
The surrounding neighborhoods oppose this proposed development in it's current form.
- The heights of the building would overlook into surrounding residences.
- It would increase traffic on a major thoroughfare that is already dealing with the cumulative effects of high density developments along Providence Rd and Alexander Rd. This intersection is the site of car collisions on a regular basis.
- This development is not consistent with other high density developments in this area which are located near shopping and other amenities.
- This plan does not include affordable housing, age-restricted housing or work-force housing options to promote diversity in this area.
This plan will also create unsafe traffic conditions as residents exiting this development will have to make U-turns on Providence Rd or cross 4 lanes of traffic on Alexander Rd to enter or exit this property. It will directly impact the ability of residents in the Kellers Glen to safely exit their development going northbound on Providence Rd or to cross two lanes to make a U-turn to go southbound on Providence Rd.
