Mayfield Family Apartments Rezoning Support

The Issue

Dear City Council Member:

This letter intends to express my support for DreamKey Partners and Mayfield Community Development Corporation's proposed rezoning to deliver 52 affordable multi-family residential units to a West Sugar Creek Road and Munsee Street site, a prominent edge of the Historic Hidden Valley community. The applicant's proposed increase in density is a necessary component of Hidden Valley's stabilization efforts. An increase in the number of residents within walking distance of Sugar Creek Community Park supports a push toward healthier lifestyles and the park's activation.

With the Sugar Creek light rail station located less than 1.5 miles away, residents will be supported by available transportation to our City's significant employment and education centers. This mixed-income community also supports a demand for more commercial development activity with a larger customer base as desired by community members.

Based on the quality of the applicant's prior developments along Statesville Avenue and throughout the City, the proposed development will help stave off gentrification and displacement by providing high-quality long-term affordable housing to our City's working-class families.

I fully support this proposed rezoning and urge you to vote yes on this project because it is the kind of redevelopment that is good for the Hidden Valley neighborhood and our local economy.
