Reform Domestic Violence Legislation

1 in 5 women in Ireland will be subjected to domestic violence. The current laws do not give Gardai enough power to protect women and their children. I am calling on Minister for justice Charlie Flanagan to introduce new legislation that will help to keep women safe when trying to escape from their abusers. When a woman wants to leave she needs to have NO CONTACT from her abuser. The introduction of a no contact order would make it an offence to make any physical , verbal or other forms of contact with the applicant. It would give Gardai the power to arrest BEFORE an act of violence has been committed . There has to be a risk assessment process for each individual and a dedicated domestic violence unit in each division of an Garda Síochána .We also need consistent enforcing of current safety orders and tougher sentencing for perpitrators of domestic violence.  Please help us protect these women and their children by signing and sharing this petition
