The reason why deforestation is such an issue is that it has a drastic effect on wildlife and on humans. Over 80% of the earth’s plants and animals live in the forest and every tree cut down means animals lose reams of their home. The problem is so extreme that it can lead to species becoming extinct. Some animals, in particular, have become endangered including the Orangutan, Sumatran tiger, and different species of birds. The issue of deforestation has a major effect on humans as well. Forest land that becomes deforested frequently is turned into steep hills. This becomes a hazard as it creates a risk of dangerous mudslides that could harm many. Also, trees and plants absorb greenhouse gases that are adding to climate change which makes them a vital part of our ecosystem. The loss of trees and plants has a direct impact on our climate and our environment health overall. The forest also feeds over 1.2 million people in poverty and without it food and resources many have and will suffer further. Humans, animals, and wildlife depend on the help of trees and the forest and without their have and will be serious repercussions.
