Nathanael Nollan started this petition to Charleston Police Department

Givionne "Gee" Jordan Jr. was a peaceful protestor protesting the death of George Floyd and others in Charleston on Sunday. He was caught on video telling the police, "I am not your enemy," but they arrested him anyway. Charleston Police Chief, Luther Reynolds, said they told protestors to disperse or "you will be arrested," despite the fact that Jordan was arrested at 5 pm, one hour before the 6 pm curfew. Luther Reynolds claims that the protest was rowdy, but in the video, Jordan is clearly on his knees trying to make peace with the police. He was also the only one initially targeted for arrest in his group. Luther Reynolds has made no comment on why he was singled out. Reynolds defended the officers saying they were on high alert from protests the night before. Givionne was part of a crew that helped clean up downtown Sunday morning. He helped store owners board up their windows and repair/sweep up what was broken. Givionne was doing absolutely NOTHING wrong and he was still arrested and charged with disobeying a lawful order. Disobeying a lawful order is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor and is punishable by 60 days in jail, 6 months probation, or a 500 dollar fine. Givionne should not face any punishment. He has a court date scheduled for June 16. The unjust arrest made by the police will be on Givionne's record even if he is not convicted. Charges MUST be dropped. Givionne should not have to go to court. The Charleston Police Department should have to answer for this injustice. Sign the petition to stand with Givionne and other protestors unjustly arrested!
