Stop Alternative 5A as an option for the Hwy 41 "improvement" proposals!

The Issue

Traffic along SC Highway 41 needs to be improved and most North Mount Pleasant residents agree that a solution to this mess is a priority.

The most sensible solution would be to widen the current Hwy 41 corridor from Hwy 17 to Clements Ferry.

Alternative 5a, as it is proposed, would bring 5 lanes of traffic through Dunes West, Park West and completely dissect the Ivy Hall neighborhood.  Some residents in Ivy Hall would not even be able to access their neighborhood playground.

This route would also bring 5 lanes straight through Laurel Hill County Park, one of the few green spaces that we have left, and once home to Laurel Hill Plantation.  The history of this park is interesting in that the previous owner John Muller called for Laurel Hill “to be maintained in a natural state insofar as possible, while giving to my trustee the right to remove timber. ... (and) to make it an enjoyable place of natural, undeveloped beauty to those who may visit it.” As a result, the property was ultimately leased to the County Park and Recreation Commission in 2011 for 25 years.

Let's save our neighborhoods and save Laurel Hill County Park!  Please sign this petition to let the Charleston County Transportation Department know that you DO NOT support Alternative 5a.
