The Issue

Japan, A place where many Iconic cars have come from and are still coming from, and we here in the US want them. Over a lot of time thinking, i think i may have come up with a good compromise to allow Iconic Japanese cars such as the Nissan Skyline and the Nissan Silvia. The compromise is that a Car that is currently illegal can be legally imported if it meets some certain criteria. the criteria is that it must have never been sold in the US to begin with to try to help protect the US market of Vehicles such as Mitsubishi lancer and Honda civic, as they were sold here, they would not be legal to import. the other major part of it is that cars will still need to comply with emissions laws to be able to get registered, so for example if someone decides to import a car from japan that meets all other criteria but the emissions are too high, they would need to bring it into emissions compliance or else, as standard procedure, the car cannot get registered, and to try to prevent black market vehicles, vehicles not registered within 30 days of landing in the US will be either exported or crushed. the third restriction on it would be for imported Kei cars. they would have to receive registration for a low-speed vehicle and will be banned from major highways. and finally each vehicle would still need to comply with standard US import Tariffs. So to quickly recap, this will allow cars to be imported if they were never sold here, have to meet  emissions standards, will have to be registered within 30 days of landing on US shores, and for Kei cars, have to be registered as low speed vehicles and will be banned from major highways.  So if a Person can follow these simple rules, it will allow for cars never sold from dealerships in The U.S. to be brought over legally. this does not have to apply to just Japanese cars either, even banned European and Australian cars can be imported by these rules. I hope that his can get pushed through the senate and be made a thing.
