As  a person who works with shelters and animal rescue groups in the State of New York, I can tell you that thousands of dogs are killed each year in shelters; the majority are Pit bulls.  This breed has been overbred over the last decade and now has saturated shelters with not enough homes to provide for them. The pit bull by nature is a good dog, however it has earned a reputation as a dangerous dog when in fact any dog who is not trained properly has the potential of being a dangerous dog. 

I would like to see a five year ban on breeding, selling and buying Pit bulls in New York to help thin out the population so that more dogs are not winding up in the shelter system.  This may also reduce dog fighting in New York.  If a person wants a Pit bull they have to adopt one from a shelter or rescue group.  

Time and time again I bring my dogs to the dog park and see somebody who has a pit bull that just had puppies just to make a buck.  Some of those puppies will wind up in a shelter or rescue group down the road.

This is a win win situation for the whole State of New York to reduce the amount of dogs killed each year. I need your help and the dogs need your help to make this happen.  THE DOG IN THIS PHOTO IS ONE OF MANY WHO WERE KILLED IN 2015.
