Establish new Film & TV rating description "SD" to advise if a Suicide is shown.

The Issue

There is currently no film or TV industry rating description that advises viewers if an act of suicide is shown. For anyone who has experienced a suicide in their lives, any depiction of the act can be an unwelcome trigger of grief, and most would rather be advised prior to viewing. Currently the Motion Picture Academy of America and the TV Guidelines Monitoring Committee (endorsed by the Federal Communications Commission) use the rating components or content descriptors: Violence, Language, Substance Abuse, Nudity and Sexual Content. By adding a designation for Suicide (suggested use: PG-13-SD for films, TV-MA-SD for television), the industry could acknowledge the problem and help reduce this unnecessary suffering.
