Support the Opening of A New Global-Inspired Fine & Performing Arts School in Charles Co.

The Issue

Through the combination of arts integration/training and global competence, we are contributing a differentiated course of study that leads to greater opportunities for all children, especially, rural students, black and brown children, and children with varying cognitive and physical abilities. We are designing a place where young students grow their spirit of innovation. We believe creativity is a core part of a child’s learning. Fueled by creativity, students have the capacity to address large-scale problems and create solutions that have an impact in the world. Essentially, we believe, you cannot be an artist without the desire to be a global citizen first. We seek to teach the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to succeed in the global creative workforce. Thank you so much for your commitment to contributing differentiated school options for students in Charles County, MD. We are no longer accepting donations on this platform. Please stay tuned to our Facebook for donation opportunities!

Do you know the benefits of global education and arts training and integration? Those benefits include:

  • increased self-awareness;
  • increased flexibility, adaptability and tolerance for ambiguous work environments;
  • increased curiosity;
  • increased problem-solving;
  • increased leadership and teamwork skills;
  • increased language and numeracy skills;
  • improved cognitive development and executive functioning;
    increased student achievement for all students, including students with special needs and English language learners;
  • and a wealth of opportunities for children in our global world

Key Pillars

  • Global Competence, Leadership, and Artistry
    We believe that students everywhere should have access to the global community and economy no matter their zip code. Further, secondary (or multi-) language acquisition, connecting students’ networks beyond the classroom to the global community, growth mindset, and global and social justice perspectives are at the foundation of our curriculum and the center of our ethos.
  • Mental Health & Wellness
    With discovering a greater sense of purpose comes a greater need for self-care and wellness. We prioritize mental, social, emotional, and physical well-being as a driver to our purpose-driven identity work. Being an artist and servant-leader can be all-encompassing; we believe in allocating additional supports and resources to ensure each student has an individualized wellness plan that they can take with them as they graduate from PISOTA. We use positive reinforcement and restorative practices with a general understanding that each student’s response to difficult situations is different; with these things in mind we are building a community where students will engage in intentional wellness and regular mindfulness as they strengthen their emotional intelligence.
  • Arts Training & Integration
    Educational research has shown the benefits to integrating art with an increased acquisition of math skills, literacy, and more. All of our teachers will be equipped with the skills to effectively integrate art into their classrooms. PISOTA offers pre-professional training in the following art practices: dance, drama, voice, instrument, visual (survey of graphic, 3D - sculpture, artifact, etc., 2D - illustration, animation, etc., photography, and painting), literary, and art history/museum curation. It is likely that students will spend at least 4 hours a day training in their selected practice.
  • College, Career, & Casting
    College, career, casting, and counseling are the 4Cs that guide our post K-12 support services. We understand that the direction after high school is different for each student. Therefore, we ensure exposure to all options and opportunities in preparation for their continued success after graduation. We are intentional about connecting students to the world beyond the classroom and prepare students for success through professional mentorship and strategic local and global partnerships.

Mission
The mission of Phoenix International School of the Arts (PISOTA) is to cultivate middle and high school students to be the next generation of purpose-driven global scholars, artists, leaders, and culture-keepers who are prepared to reach their greatest potential. By design, we ensure equitable access to global leadership and scholarship, rigorous arts training and differentiated arts integration into core subjects, second language acquisition tools, and co-curricular career exploration. As a result, our students explore and unlock endless possibilities for their careers and art practice, and meet the needs of the workforce for today and of tomorrow. Graduates of Phoenix International School of the Arts are curious, confident, and collaborative all the while valuing wellness, and practicing a habit of excellence in their careers and personal lives. Phoenix International School of the Arts emboldens the next generation of the global creative workforce by cultivating and refining the talent and curiosity of Charles County youth and its surrounding rural communities.
