Reimplementation of Graduation Rain Plan

Reimplementation of Graduation Rain Plan
Why this petition matters

The class of 2021 has lost everything to Covid this school year. There was no homecoming, sporting events, spirit weeks, or prom held. These are events students look forward to for their entire high school career. Though these events were canceled, seniors were promised an in-person, traditional graduation ceremony. With the threat of rain, the rain plan was changed last-minuet to remove all possibility of a traditional graduation ceremony.
I have watched my peers struggle with motivation as the school year dragged on virtually, the promise of such graduation the only motivation to move forward. It is unfair to students to watch their peers get to walk the stage in a traditional manner, and not get to do so themselves because of factors outside of their control (such as weather).
The board of education originally had a plan in place to hold graduation at St. Charles high school if it rained, students graduating in the gym with parents watching virtually in classrooms. This plan was changed at the last minute because the board thought "parents and students should be together." This sentiment was not held by a majority of parents and students in the county. Parents want to watch their students walk the stage and hear their name called.
