Ask Charles Booker and Mike Broihier to come together, decide who drops out of the race.
The Issue
Mike Broihier and Charles Booker's policies are similar, and both stand in stark contrast to Amy McGrath's. If they really cared about their policies, and cared most about their fellow Kentuckians following and pushing them in that progressive direction, they would at this point be working together to achieve progress for Kentucky. We petition that Broihier and Booker make a gentlemen’s agreement as to which of them drops out to support the other in this last week before June 23rd Democratic Primary.
Both Mike Broihier and Charles Booker are strong candidates, earned impressive endorsements, and make a compelling case for why they can beat Mitch in a general election. Yet neither have been so convincing of that case as to achieve front-runner status. Will one of them pull in front on election day? Who knows. What we do know is it will be a setback for Kentuckians and Americans for UBI if Amy McGrath wins the 6-year term in the Senate, and worse if she loses to Mitch McConnell.
From around the country, Americans for UBI and progressive Democrats who want Mitch gone are supporting Broihier's and Booker's campaigns. When Kentuckians and this coalition of Americans rally behind 1 single UBI candidate against McGrath-- Booker or Broihier-- McGrath can be defeated. When the Kentuckians, progressive Americans, pro-UBI Americans, and the DNC rank-and-file who likewise want to “ditch Mitch” all get behind the Democratic UBI candidate, Mitch will be defeated. The final showdown isn’t “Mike beats Mitch” or "Booker beats Mitch,” it’s Americans & the DNC & Kentucky voters who beat Mitch.
Campaign donations and phone calls will be pouring in from around the country to persuade voters, but ultimately it’s the candidate stirs voters to action. Amy’s base will “Vote blue no matter who,” so is it Broihier or Booker who can bring out more new and disaffected voters to the polls? We don't know, but they can figure it out. The Broihier and Booker camps need to get together, open up their books, and see who has the demographics, the momentum, the surge of in-state donors, the indicators of who better activates the Kentucky voters needed to clinch the November election.
Put Humanity First, don’t wait for the election to concede to second place. Make a gentlemen's agreement, and may the best man drop out in support of the other.
