Ban Plastic Bags in Massachusetts

Ban Plastic Bags in Massachusetts
The Issue
As we imagine our goal of moving forward into a more sustainable world, we must imagine what we can eliminate to accomplish this goal. Plastic bags are a great place to start. It is estimated world wide that 1 trillion bags are used and discarded every year. Australians use 3.92 billion plastic bags a year, that's over 10 million new bags being used every day.
We use each one on average for only 12 minutes before throwing it away. However, as many scientists will confirm, there is no 'away'. Plastic bags are destined for landfill almost as soon as they are created. Some end up in the sea, with every square mile of ocean now containing an average of 46,000 pieces of plastic, which choke and entangle sea birds and mammals. What's more, plastic bags do not biodegrade; instead they eventually break down into smaller and smaller bits, contaminating soil, waterways and oceans, and entering the food chain when eaten by animals.
Please sign this petition to support a more sustainable, healthy, thriving, plastic free future. Together we can make a significant positive impact on our health and environment's health.
