The Issue

In order to be eligible for care and support, a disabled person will have undergone an assessment, and a plan will have been written, outlining the services they are eligible for.

Many disabled people are unable to work and therefore, their only income is their disability benefits - DLA/PIP and ESA. They are unable to increase their income through employment.

Local Authorities carry out financial assessments on disabled people in order to calculate how much they should contribute to their care. After statutory deductions, the Local Authorities take what is left.

This affects disabled people's quality of life and reduces it to an existence.

Since they have been assessed under the Care Act 2014 as needing care and support, they should not have to pay for it. Charging disabled people for their care is unfair.
