I am writing this petition as an autistic individual who is deeply disturbed and offended by a recent incident at the Johnsons of Old Hurst farm and zoo near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK. On June 18, 2026, a horrific event unfolded when a 3-year-old boy was allegedly thrown into a crocodile enclosure by a 30-year-old man claiming neurodivergence as an excuse. Thankfully, the brave actions of the zoo owner's wife saved the child's life, preventing an even greater tragedy.

The boy was critically injured and required multiple surgeries at Addenbrooke's Hospital. It's unacceptable to use neurodivergence as a scapegoat for such a dangerous act which endangered both a young child's life and the animals involved. This man should be held accountable for his actions and charged with cruelty to children and animals.

Let's not forget the crocodiles, who were merely acting on instinct, mistaking the child for food tossed into their enclosure. The zoo rightfully chose not to harm the animals as they were innocent participants in this tragic event.

This issue strikes a personal chord with me, as it perpetuates harmful stereotypes and undermines the integrity of the neurodivergent community by associating dangerous behavior with our differences. It is crucial to separate a learning disability from acts of cruelty, and to ensure that justice is delivered appropriately.

I urge the authorities to take swift action against this individual and reinforce that neurodivergence is not synonymous with dangerous behavior.
