CHANGE DRESS CODE AT CHAPIN HIGHSCHOOL
The Issue
WHY THE DRESS CODE NEEDS TO CHANGE.
- Dress codes are completely sexist, outdated, and unnecessary. The majority of the rules are directed at underage girls between the ages of 14-17 years old. Why are young girls labeled as “distractions”, sexualized, and objectified for their clothing. Almost all teen girls wear crop tops. That just happens to be the style. If they are required to go out and buy “school appropriate” clothes just to attend school; there is a problem. Can someone please explain to me what is inappropriate about jeans with rips above the knee? Do Chapin staff really think boys cannot focus on their school work because a girl wears jeans with rips above the knee? Or spaghetti straps. NO. Truthfully NO ONE CARES ABOUT WHAT OTHERS ARE WEARING. Except Chapin staff of course.
- If education is truly the number one priority at Chapin High School; why are girls constantly removed from class for violation of dress code? This is placing the education of boys above the education of girls. Saying the girls need to be removed from a test, lesson, or assignment due to their clothing because “The boys cannot focus.”
ENOUGH OF THIS. If we all work together we can change things. It’s 2021 and we are focusing on what people are wearing at school? There are bigger problems than spaghetti straps and a cropped T-shirt. LET’S DO BETTER. Please share this petition if you agree. The more signatures we can get; the more awareness we can bring about this issue! For more info visit @thechapindistraction
