Dear Channel 7,

It is with much displeasure that I bring to your attention a scene in the following show due to air, Yummy Mummies.
The scene enacts 2 women "Yummy Mummies" in a cafe, overlooking a cafe patron breastfeeding, words said by your actors to the effect of "Oh my god, she is breastfeeding, breastfeeding in public is ILLEGAL" (note emphasis on illegal).
This statement made by your actors is incorrect and discrimination against breastfeeding mothers.
In Australian Federal Law, breastfeeding is a right, not a privilege. Under the federal Sex Discrimination Act 1984, section 7AA it is illegal in Australia to discriminate against a person either directly or indirectly on the grounds of breastfeeding.

We find this program to be in breach of the Commercial Television Industry Code of Practice 2015 (the Code).

Clause 2.6 of the Code Material not suitable for broadcast concerns material which may cause distress.

This is causing the distress of thousands of breastfeeding mothers around Australia.

Currently breastfeeding rates in Australia are extremely low, with only 15% still exclusively breastfeeding at the age of 5 months. (http://www.health.gov.au/breastfeeding This has a lot to do with the lack of support and education around breastfeeding but also due to society and media exactly like this. It is extremely damaging to our future generations. The world health organisation tells us increasing breastfeeding to near-universal levels could save more than 800 000 lives every year, the majority being children under 6 months. ( http://www.who.int/…/…/news/2016/exclusive-breastfeeding/en/ This is not something to joke about.

We are formally requesting this show be removed from airing and at the very least this part of the show and any other potential code breaches are removed from the show prior to airing and removed on all your social media outlets. Because of the damage this has already caused we are calling for an apology and for positive breastfeeding advertisements that follow the World Health Organisation recommendation of breastfeeding promotion to be aired on Chanel 7.
We appreciate your urgent attention to this matter. We wish to receive notification that this matter has been attended to.
