The Issue

Vermont's current flag is boring and generic, and doesn't fit the state's rich history. If Vermont want's to reclaim its strong history and state identity, we must embrace our history and adopt our flag from the American Revolution.

From 1777 to 1804 Vermont unofficially flew the flag of the Green Mountain Boys, a militia fighting for the independence of the United State's and Vermont's right to be its own state inside of the Union. We flew this flag first as a movement, then a self proclaimed Republic, and then as a state in 1791.

"Our vow is recorded-our banner unfurled, in the name of Vermont we defy all the world!"                                            - Unknown Vermonter

The flag carries symbolism that embodies both Vermont's geography today, and its history. The green represents, of course, the Green Mountains that cover the state. The blue represents Lake Champlain. The 13 stars represent the 13 colonies who Vermont wanted to join as an equal in creating the United States of America.

We the people of Vermont will never stop fighting for our state and country at large, support our state in reclaiming our history and identity today!
