Our community values its unique identity, built up over years of shared experiences, growth, challenges, and successes. Our beloved high school, Holt High, is a symbol of this identity. We, as members of the Holt community, wish to express our opposition to the proposed name change of our high school. Holt has often found itself overlooked by both county and city, being referred to unfavorably as the county's "orphan." However, we believe in the spirit and resilience of Holt, and we see this attempt to rename our high school as a further disenfranchisement. With the few resources we have, we still manage to boast a graduation rate of 89%, well above the national average of 84%. This stands testament to the strength and determination of our students, teachers, and community. Renaming our school symbolically undermines this rich and robust history, further marginalizing us. Therefore, we urge the school board to reconsider their decision and retain the name Holt High School. Please show your support for our community and sign this petition.
