The Issue

Virginia's current state flag, while steeped in history, lacks visual distinction and prominence. I propose adopting the stellar design created by Virginia native Alex Avendaño. This new design not only retains the historical significance of the current flag but also enhances its visual appeal significantly, visualizing the state motto, "Sic Semper Tyrannis," as well as adding a "V" for Virginia. The adoption of this new design will reflect our commitment to progress while honoring our past. It is time to embrace change that reflects both tradition and innovation.

I have also made a few variants myself, using Avendaño's original design as a base. Namely, I changed the sword to a spear to better reflect the seal; replaced Avendaño's crown with the one depicted in the seal, and added the broken chains from the seal, symbolizing the Commonwealth's break from British rule and tyranny. In each of my variants have 10 open-facing chain links (13 if you count the two broken ones and the "v" broken chain link), representing Virginia's status as one of the original 13 colonies and the 10th state to ratify the U.S. Constitution.
