To bring my mum's cat from Perugia to London following her passing, I was compelled to endure a grueling and expensive journey. Complying with current UK regulations cost me £800 and required 22 hours of travel. I took an early morning bus from Perugia to Rome, where I was able to pay just €60 extra to take her on a flight to Paris as an in-cabin passenger. However, the journey did not end there. From Paris, we had to catch a train to Calais, and then a bus, as the station does not service the port. In Calais, our journey continued with the help of a driver who had to leave London, take a ferry to Calais and pick us up, only to turn around and travel back across the Channel to London together. We finally arrived at nearly midnight. This ordeal is outrageous!

Under current regulations, domestic animals can only enter or exit the UK as cargo, which is not only exorbitant in cost but also stressful and potentially dangerous for the animals. No flights in or out of the UK allow pets as cabin passengers, regardless of their size, including small cats. Contrast this with the flexible rules in other parts of Europe, the US, and across the globe that welcome pets in-cabin, making traveling with our furry family members far more humane and feasible.

It is high time for the UK to modernize and bring its pet travel regulations in line with international standards. Enabling pets to travel safely and comfortably with their owners in cabin ensures a more compassionate travel experience while alleviating financial burdens and undue stress on both animals and their owners.

This petition calls for a revision of the UK's outdated and prohibitive pet travel laws that force unnecessary hardship upon pet owners. The UK should allow small domesticated pets to travel in the cabin with their owners, ensuring safety, comfort, and peace of mind for both animals and their caretakers.
