CHANGE TO EUROVISION SELECTION PROCESS

CHANGE TO EUROVISION SELECTION PROCESS
The Issue
We are urging the BBC to change the selection process for The Eurovision Song Contest.
For the avoidance of any doubt, we really do wish Olly Alexander the very best. Ofcourse we do. We want to see the UK win!! We are not criticising the artist. We are critical of the PROCESS. If our campaign manages to help open a door for any unsigned artist then we will have achieved something.
Our Idea
*BBC opens Eurovision entries to only unsigned artists using the existing BBC Introducing platform.
*BBC local radio runs a vote through their Introducing show. The 3 artists with the largest amount of votes, progress to a regional showcase.
*Regional showcases should then be held in Independent Venues. The audience should have a say as well as a panel of judges. The artists should be assessed against criteria such as performance, originality and audience interaction.
*Each region selects one artist to progress to national selection.
*Those selected, take part in a national televised competition where the UK public get to vote on which artist they want to see represent the UK.
What we hope can be acheived.
The knock on effect from this could be huge. To really showcase the talent in the UK at grassroots level, could give a much needed boost to struggling venues and promoters who are working hard every day to put shows on in towns and cities up and down the country.
We have lost too many venues! Too many promoters have thrown in the towel after years of investing their own money waiting on things to get better. Its time for a change. The BBC has the power to do this.
Why is this important to me?
I am the Drummer of an Independent UK band that has been fighting to be considered for the chance to represent the UK at Eurovision. During this time, we have noted that there really is no real pathway available to us. Other artists have also expressed that this is something they would seriously like to pursue. There is so much talent here in the UK and some amazing independent venues. We should be doing more to showcase this.
