Ticketmaster has been screwing over fans for a very long time, but I think we all truly noticed the absolute disaster after the Taylor Swift “Verified Fan” Eras tour presale went so horribly. The Olivia Rodrigo Guts presale has gone fairly similarly and left many fans crushed without presale codes and tons of tickets already posted on resale sites for double to TRIPLE the price. 

Clearly, real fans are not getting their hands on the tickets if they are being sold for any more than face value, and so the clear solution here is to fix the “Verified Fan” process. 

Making sure verified fans are the ones getting these codes is absolutely necessary, as many of us do not have the funds to buy these insane resale prices and want to be able to see our favourite artists live.

Some ideas are:

Completing tasks to increase odds of getting a code, connecting to a spotify or apple music account, proof of purchase of the artists merchandise, codes emailed to people who pre order the albums, etc. 

Obviously these are just suggestions as I am not an expert. I am a huge live music fan and cannot afford the insane resale prices that keep happening to these popular artists shows. Something needs to change, and it’s time to hold ticketmaster and live nation accountable.
